✦ Synopsis

A peculiar brightening was observed near the centre of the D2 line of NaI on July 28, 1966, in a position where no activity could be seen in the Ha line but where a new important active region formed during the next rotation of the sun. The brightening, first observed at 06:30 UT, progressively faded and disappeared before 07 : 10 UT. Last summer a double-pass m o n o c h r o m a t o r was attached to the new solar telescope of the M a i n Astronomical Observatory of the U k r a i n i a n Academy of Sciences and photoelectric observations were started. The principal characteristics of the apparatus

In this investigation, we have studied the latitudinal, longitudinal (northern and southern hemispheric) distributions based on 1737 major flares observed during solar cycles 19 and 20 (see subsequent paragraphs) and have arrrived at some interesting results which go to show that as far major flares

Unusual and intense emission in the DI, D2 lines has been registered photoelectrically in an undisturbed region near the center of the solar disk on 28 July, 1966. Various aspects of the possibility that the emission might originate in either artificial or natural comets by processes of resonance sc
