Abstract

In this paper a CAD tool for the automatic design of passive microwave components is described. It is based on a genetic algorithm optimizer and a three‐dimensional finite element simulator. The main feature of the proposed tool is its ability, achieved by means of the parallel virtual machine software package, to fully exploit any concurrent computational resource. The effectiveness of the proposed approach is preliminarily assessed by considering the synthesis of a rectangular waveguide power divider. Selected numerical results confirm the capabilities, but also the current limitations, of the presented methodology. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
