β¦ Synopsis
A numerical method for solving one-dimensional, compressible flow problems including locating and followjng shock waves is described. This method uses a small amount of computer storage, and complete problems can be computed in a few minutes on an IBM 7044 computer. Results of a problem for the discharge of air from a duct are presented. tThis work has been partially supported by NASA Contract NAS8-20136 issued at

## Abstract Let __D__ β β^__n__^ be a bounded domain with piecewiseβsmooth boundary, and __q__(__x__,__t__) a smooth function on __D__ Γ [0, __T__]. Consider the timeβlike Cauchy problem magnified image magnified image Given __g__, __h__ for which the equation has a solution, we show how to approxi
