A numerical model is developed for the prediction of bare and mulched soil temperatures using standard meteorological data and the physical characteristics of the soil. The results show that the model can accurately predict the soil temperature regime under a wide variety of conditions, suggesting that it can be used for determining the conditions under which soil mulching can be efficient.
