✦ Synopsis

A process is described for making emulsions, and microcapsules derived from them, of known, narrow particle size distribution. This can greatly reduce problems of thermodynamic instability and degradation, and improve biological performance by permitting close control of the release rate of capsules.

In a previous publication, turbidimetry and elastic light scattering (ELS) were shown to be two techniques that, combined, can be used to determine particle size distributions (PSDs) of suspended particles. The proposed method, consisting in the solution of a linear inverse problem, was based on the

## Abstract A novel route for the preparation of hybrid zwitterionic membranes containing both sulfonic and carboxylic acid groups is reported. Based on this synthetic methodology, a series of membranes were synthesized via sol–gel reaction, zwitterionization process, and the oxidization of the SH
