We isolated 4-O-b-D-glucopyranosyl-trans-p-coumarate (1), the leaf-opening substance of Sesbania exaltata Cory. The leaf-movement inhibitor, designed on the chemical mechanism of nyctinasty, could keep the leaves of S. exaltata open till the leaves withered and died.
