✦ Synopsis

The occurrence of the excited-state intramolecular proton transfer (ESIPT) for 1 0-hydroxybenzo [ hlquinoline is reported. The tautomer emission was observed with a maximum at 609 nm and a yield of z 2.0~ 10m2 in methylcyclohexane at room temperature. The ESIPT reaction is free from solvent perturbation.

The extreme photostability and unusually large Stokes shifted emission make this a potential candidate for application in radiation-hard scintillators.
