β¦ Synopsis
In this paper the authors report on a distance learning system that takes advantage of the TIDE project. During the creation of their system, the information exchanged among the lecture participants is first classified into five categories, then the function classes necessary to exchange the various types of information between the classroom and remote locations are assembled into six classes. As a result, 30 functional elements are needed for the distance learning system. In the system reported on in this paper, the authors classify the functional elements into eight subsystems based on network bandwidth and various restrictions. The authors also report on the technology requirements for each subsystem, in addition to the system structure.
