A new strategy for the convergent assembly of six-membered polycyclic ether ring fragments has been developed based upon the novel reaction between vinylstannanes with tri¯ates in the presence of a strong base. The application of the present method has allowed for a synthetic study of the EFGH ring of gambierol to be achieved.
