Abstract
Attention is drawn to the discrepancy between the electric fields actually existing below thunder clouds, as measured by the altiβelectrograph, and those expected on a theory due to Wilson. An attempt to remove the discrepancy by the consideration of the presence of negative ions as well as the positive ions produced by point discharge decreases, but does not remove it, and there remains an unsolved problem.
