✦ Synopsis

Abstract

Aspects of the synoptic climatology of the Labrador‐Ungava peninsula are investigated with reference to a classification of airflow pattern types, formulated on the basis of synoptic weather maps for November 1956 to February 1958. The winters 1956–57 and 1957–58 exhibit, respectively, marked negative and positive temperature departures and the temperature and precipitation characteristics of the airflow types are discussed for these two seasons. The validity of the airflow categories is statistically tested.

The results of an objective synoptic climatology of glacier mass balance in south-western Canada are affected by the scale and degree of generality of the synoptic patterns used. Two scales of 500mb daily weather maps are compared. Statistical analysis shows little direct relationship between the tw

Extreme fire-weather conditions are usually thought of as discrete events rather than part of a continuum of meteorological and climatological variability. This study uses a synoptic climatological approach (weather typing) to examine the seasonal climatology of extreme fire-weather conditions acros
