β¦ Synopsis
Several experimental results indicate that S, (the skewness of the vertical turbulent velocity) increases with height, and K, (the kurtosis) decreases with height in the neutral surface layer. The measured behavior of S, and K, with height under neutral conditions is shown to be consistent with available models for the gradient-diffusion and the pressure-velocity correlation. In addition, an estimate of the mode of the probability density distribution turns out to be helpful in interpreting the height dependence of K,.

## Abstract Results of our recent investigation of spectral measurements of wind velocity in the surface layer are analysed in light of the hypothesis proposed by Kaimal __et al.__ (1972). It is confirmed that in the inertial subrange the spectra for all the three components and varying stability c
Velocity and temperature derivatives were obtained at a height of 4 m in the atmospheric surface layer above land. With the assumption of local isotropy, these measurements are used to obtain some statistics of the turbulent energy and scalar dissipation fields. These statistics include the variance
Turbulent kinetic energy and its vertical flux were measured at two heights over a paddy field. The vertical transport of turbulent kinetic energy was always downward right above the paddy field and was frequently downward at higher levels within a few metres above the crop. Relationships between the bulk Richardson number, B, and other stability parameters were derived for the atmospheric surface layer. Nomograms were constructed, relating the Monin-Obukhov stability parameter, z/L, to B. The nomograms and the graph of Golder (1972) were used to establish various schem
