โœฆ Synopsis

Superplastic behavior is the consequence of two factors: Newtonian flow and the equilibrium rate of bond breaking and meading. Both processes can be expressed with the rate theory. The analysis based on the theory shows that Newtonian flow occurs if the activation volume associated with plastic flow is small and the deformation is controlled by a quasisymmetrical barrier. The equilibrium condition of bond breaking rate is the function of the bond energy, temperature and stress. These two processes are interrelated and fracture is delayed only when both conditions are satisfied.
