✦ Synopsis

This note presents an expression of radiated sound pressure from a con"ned source in terms of the spherical harmonic functions. In the expression, the spherical harmonic functions are interpreted as the radiating modes and their superposition results in various radiation patterns. The orthonormal property of the radiating modes also allows a general expression of the multipole radiated sound power.

SOUND RADIATION FROM A VIBRATING RAILWAY
✍ D.J. THOMPSON; C.J.C. Jones πŸ“‚ Article πŸ“… 2002 πŸ› Elsevier Science 🌐 English βš– 438 KB

The sound radiation characteristics of a railway wheel are investigated by using boundary element calculations. The axisymmetry of the wheel allows an axi-harmonic formulation to be used, in which the wheel is defined by a two-dimensional mesh of its cross-section and the motion is decomposed into h

SOUND RADIATION FROM A PLATE INTO A PORO

A nearby layer of porous sound-absorbing material has previously been shown to be capable of greatly increasing the acoustic power radiated from a vibrating #at plate, and consequently of enhancing the structural damping in the plate. In this paper, a previously published model for sound radiation f

We consider the nonlinear surface deformation of a plasma-which is confined by external fields. It then turns out that a perturbation of the plasma-vacuum boundary can propagate as a solitary wave with a velocity that depends on the external radiation intensity.

An exact solution to the problem of radiation from a cylindrical duct has been available using the Wiener}Hopf technique for many years, and a number of approximate methods can also be considered. When parameter spaces involving high frequency are required, it is possible to use ray-theory-based tec
