In the introduction to his edition of The Wanderer, R. F. Leslie emphasizes the long period of growth in wisdom which lies behind the wanderer's monologue, criticizing readings of the poem which do not do so: Insufficient attention has been paid to geara iu in line 22. These emphatic adverbs make c
