✦ Synopsis

At two sites in Potsdam various exploration methods were tested in order to find the most suitable geophysical methods to collect data concerning the history of the city. Due to low signal to noise ratio inside towns geophysical methods/techniques often demand an extremely high data resolution. Furthermore, signals from modern objects are often much stronger than signals from older elements. Using resistivity methods it was possible to detect the two former ditches around the original town and to image the foundations of some buildings of antiquity such as the Heilig-Geist-Church and the City Castle. As a result many pseudosections (using the Wenner and Dipole-Dipole arrays) were measured and inverted. In addition, magnetic, electromagnetic and GPR investigations were undertaken to provide maps giving an overview of features below the surface. *
