โฆ Synopsis
The ASTM has developed a standard for plane strain fracture toughness testing.. Some of the criteria for valid testing deal with the straightness of the fatigue crack front of the specimens. Because of the difficulty in developing straight fatigue cracks in the bend specimen. a program was undertaken to check the requirements on the straightness of the fatigue crack. Specimens which met ASTM requirements and some that violated the crack straightness criteria were tested. The results indicated that in aluminum alloys for the croohedness of fatigue cracks investigated. no effect of the crack front geometry on the K,( values could be observed.
