Abstract

The existence of a line or zone in which air flow has zero vorticity is inferred from the equation of motion. This zone is called the Intertropical Discontinuity. The detection, development and movement of this zone are discussed. It is shown how knowledge of its location and properties might be of value to forecasting near the equator.
