Two cases are considered, b = 1 {logistic distribution) and b v~ 1. His results for h = 1 also appear in Balakrishnan (1992a,b) and Balakrishnan and Cohen (1990, pp. 177 186). The reality is that for values b :~ 1 the likelihood equations ? lnL/~tt = 0 and ~ lnL/~c; = 0 have exactly the same forms as those for b = 1 and are expressions in terms of the intractable functions
