✦ Synopsis
The previously reported activity of bis-acetyl-acetonato-iron(II) as an initiator of vinyl polymerization is now believed to be spurious and attributable to the presence of an unidentified ferric complex. The spurious complex and Fem (Acac)3 are active initiators for methyl methacrylate but Fe ~ (Acac)_, is not. Criteria for the correct identification of complexes in initiating systems based on acetyl-acetonato-iron complexes are discussed.
