Abstract
A new wavelength conversion method using an SOA‐loop‐mirror for NRZ optical data has been proposed and experimentally demonstrated. A conventional wavelength converter with a nonlinear fiber‐loop‐mirror can perform RZ‐to‐RZ, NRZ‐to‐RZ, or RZ‐to‐NRZ data format conversion, while NRZ‐to‐NRZ conversion has not been demonstrated up to now. We successfully experiment optical wavelength conversion of 1300 nm NRZ data into 1550 nm NRZ data at 1.5 Gbit/s using a fiber‐loop‐mirror with a 1300 nm‐SOA. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
