Auxiliary electrodes having a low hydrogen overpotential were prepared by electrodepositing active nickel onto chemically-metallized polypropylene fibre. They effectively overcame the problem of zinc anode shape change in alkaline electrolyte by dissolving residual zinc, which remained on the anode
