## Abstract Technical advances in T2βweighted cardiovascular MR (CMR) imaging allow for accurate identification and quantification of tissue injuries that alter myocardial T2 relaxation. Of these, myocardial edema is of special relevance. Increased myocardial water content is an important feature o

β¦ Synopsis
Abstract
This paper describes a method that prepares the longitudinal magnetization with T~2~* weighting for subsequent acquisition. The main advantage of our technique is its insensitivity to static: field inhomogeneity. We have combined this approach with, an ultrafast gradientβecho (TurboβFLASH) sequence and conducted experiments on phantoms and volunteers to demonstrate its capability and utility. With such a technique a T~2~*βweighted image can be generated in less than a second. In the paper, the detail of the technique and experimental results are presented.
