β¦ Synopsis
The structure model for the Eu 1.3 Nb 1.9 S 5 compound is determined based on high-resolution electron microscopy evidence. This compound crystallizes in a hexagonal unit cell with a=8.8732(8) A Λand c=23.45(1) A Λ. Its structure is built up as an alternating sequence of trigonal-prismatic NbS 2 layers of formula [Nb 7 S 14 ] and [Nb(Eu 3 S 4 ) 2 ] slabs along the c-direction.
In the [Nb(Eu 3 S 4 ) 2 ] block the stacking of two close-packed (Eu 3 S 4 ) layers creates octahedral interstices formed by S atoms; these cavities are occupied by Nb cations. The model is compared with structures of other Eu-containing niobium sulfides, such as Eu 0.167 NbS 2 and the misfit compound [(EuS) 1.5 ] 1.15 NbS 2 .

Solid-state phase equilibria of the ternary Al+Li+Si system were studied by arc-melted and levitation-melted samples in the as-cast state and annealed at 2503C up to 1 month. Phase analysis was done with X-ray powder di4ractometry. The ternary phase diagram at 2503C is established. Three virtually s
