Three sesquiterpene acids, representing a new stereochemical class of bicyclic sesouiternenes. have been isolated from .!?temOnhiia virnata W.V. Fitzg. (Mvonoraceae). Chemical and spectroscopic evidence is preset&d for th& structure and r&&e stereochemistry. The absolute configuration was determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis of a derivative of the major metabolite (1). A fourth acid is shown to be a diastereoisomer of 1.
