A new sesquiterpene, (~S~2S~6R~8R) ~is~r~py~-5-(hyc~xymethy~)-8-methy~tricyc~[4.4.~.~2~]dec~-ene
(1), was isolated and identified from the leaf surface lipids of Nicotiana umbratica Burbidge. The structure of compound 1, including the absolute stereochemistry, was established on the basis of its spectral data and X-ray diffraction analysis of 15-p-bromobenzoate (la).
