A new sensitive spectrophotometric determination of scandium with 11(2-thiazolylazo)resorcinol q-(z-Thiazolylazo)resorcinol (TAR) reacts with many metal ions to form colored complexes. The reagent has been used for the spectrophotometric deterrninations of bismuthi, cobalt?, copper', nickels, niobium4, tantalum6, thalliuma, thorium7 and uraniums. The wide application of heterocyclic azo dyestuffs, including TAR, in analytical chemistry has been reviewed by ANDERSON AND NICKLESSO and KAWASE'O.
