A new reagent to incorporate the 2-(1adamantyl)-2-propyloxycarbonyl (Ad-POC) protecting group into amines, 2-(1-adamantyl)-2-propyl p-nitrophenylcarbonate, was prepared in two steps from the commercially available 1-adamantylcarbonyl chloride.

The Ad-POC group was introduced into a variety of amines and amino acid derivatives.
