Powder samples of K2Ln2(BO3)2O (Ln: La, Nd, Sm, Eu) are prepared by solid state reaction of K2CO3, Ln2O3, and H3BO3 (Pt crucible, 840-900 Β°C, 48 h). Single crystals of K2La2(BO3)2O are obtained by spontaneous crystallization from a melt of K2CO3, La2O3, H3BO3, and KF as a flux at 1050 Β°C. K2La2(BO3)

A new structural family of rare earth oxyborates Na 2 Ln 2 (BO 3 ) 2 O (Ln ‫؍‬ Sm, Eu and Gd) is evidenced.
