β¦ Synopsis
the transition from the highest occupied molecular orbital of symmetry t 2 to the first unoccupied MO of symmetry 2e
[ground state (la1)2(lt2)6(le)4(2t2)6(t1)6; excited state . . . (2t2)6(t1)5(2e)l; for the MO scheme cf. 121, 1311. Since the MO t l is centered on the ligands and 2e represents mainly a MO that is localized on the central atom, the course of the chargetransfer band tl + 2e of chalcogenomolybdates can be interpreted as in Table (the ionization energy decreases from oxygen to selenium).
