โฆ Synopsis
This paper is concerned with the design of a controller of the decentralized type for the decoupling and performance improvement of multimachine power systems. A decomposition method is initially applied to the complete linearized model of a large-scale power system for singling out the model of each generating unit. Then, a graph-theoretic procedure is used to design a local decoupling linear state feedback controller for the two-input two-output model of every machine. Furthermore, the poles of each generating unit are properly placed so that an enhancement of its dynamic behaviour can also be achieved. The resulting decentralized control scheme, when applied to the overall system, provides satisfactory results and gives operational flexibility to the multimachine power system. Its effectiveness is illustrated by a numerical example involving a real multimachine power system.
