A novel method is suggested to measure the absolute excited singlet-sin&t absorption spectrum of rhodamine by bleachinp completely the solution. The motar decadic estinction coefficient of the excited state fe = 4.8 X IO4 liter mole-' cm-" at 440 nmj is estimated directly from the #&au-like absorption signal at verJ' high excitation intensities.
