A new layered cuprate with the composition LiI 3 Bi 2 Sr 2 Ca Cu 2 O 8 has been synthesized by the reaction of Bi 2 Sr 2 CaCu 2 O 8 with lithium iodide under an atmosphere of iodine at 300Β°C. The new cuprate is pale green and lamellar and crystallized in a tetragonal cell with the lattice parameters
