โœฆ Synopsis

The theory of Cauchy integrals is used to derive an explicit formula for the Rayleigh wave velocity in an elastic solid. The new formula shows that in any linearly elastic solid there is only one solution to the Rayleigh wave equation and that such a solution is always real.
