Abstract
A new fluorescent chemosensor based upon 1,8โnaphthalimide and 8โhydroxyquinoline was synthesized, and its fluorescent properties in the presence of different metal cations (Hg^2+^, Ag^+^, Zn^2+^, Fe^2+^, Cd^2+^, Pb^2+^, Ca^2+^, Cu^2+^, Mg^2+^, and Ba^2+^) were investigated. It displayed fluorescence quenching with some heavy and transition metal (HTM) ions, and the quenching strongly depended on the nature of HTM ions.
