✦ Synopsis
A new interpretation of Berenger's perfectly matched layer ( ) PML equations is presented in this paper. This new formulation is based on field scaling rather than coordinate stretching, and is deri¨ed from an unsplit form of Berenger's PML equations. It is demonstrated how the field scaling approach may be used to de¨elop a methodology for unifying the Berenger and the anisotropic PML formulations.
