✦ Synopsis

A new, convenient and efficient synthetic method for the construction of 1,3-oxathiolan-2-ylidenes via sodium borohydride reduction of the addition product of dithiocarbamic acid esters with a-bromoketones under basic conditions is reported. This method is general and applicable to a range of systems.
