Prasannan et al. (1985, Chem. Engng Sci. 40, 1251-1261) developed a mathematical model to account for the effect of inerts on gas-solid reactions. The model is experimentally verified in this paper. A reaction system involving capture of CO2 by freshly prepared lime pellets was chosen and varying a

✦ Synopsis
A method is proposed to study the effect of a gaseous product on the rate of gas-solid reactions. Application of a continuously stirred tank reactor (CSTR) is the most essential feature of the method. Under constant flow and temperature, the concentration of the gaseous product is self-controlled by the reaction rate. The method has been verified by the studies of the retarding effect of water vapour on the reduction of promoted magnetite -widely used as the industrial catalyst for ammonia synthesis.

## Abstract A theoretical analysis of the influence of mass‐transfer effect on the kinetic of solid–gas reactions has been carried out by assuming that the partial pressures of the gases generated in the reaction are proportional to the reaction rate. The influence of mass‐transfer phenomena on the
The solids concentration in a circulating fluidized bed of flue gas desulfurization (CFB-FGD) is low, and the gas-solid mixing needs to be strengthened to improve the reaction efficiency. The addition of internals in a square CFB-FGD is studied here. Different sizes of wedge-shaped internals were se
