β¦ Synopsis
One purpose of this study was to look for unexpected immunological cross-reactions between different compounds. T h e only such cross-reaction was suggested b y t h e observation that inactivation o f 0x-T4 phage b y o n e normal rabbit serum was inhibited b y DNP-BSA. This finding was confirmed in repeated tests, but none of t h e other rabbit sera t h a t inactivated the oxazolone phage could be inhibited by DNP-BSA. T h e only conceivable basis for this cross-reaction was that the antibodies were broadly specific for t h e benzene ring which is shared by DNP and Oxazolone.

B14-2-14 is a monoclonal cytotoxic IgM antibody which reacts with thymocytes of all mouse strains tested. The fraction of positive cells (by visual immunofluorescence) varies between strains from about 25-45% in A.CA to 65-85% in C57BL/6, and high levels are dominant in F1 hybrids. In the periphery,
