β¦ Synopsis
A new high temperature calorimeter, based on modifications and improvements to the commercial integrated heat flux Setaram design is described. In this unit thermal effects are measured differentially along the vertical axis of the calorimeter.Performance was tested at 1473 K through the measurement of the enthalpies of formation of intermetallic compounds, using high temperature mixing calorimetry. * Dedicated to Prof. Edgar F. Westrum, Jr., on the occasion of his 70th birthday and in honour of his contribution to calorimetry and thermal analysis.

The construction of a fully automated adiabatic calorimeter for the temperature range 50-350 K is described. Appropriate operation of the calorimeter was tested by measuring the specific heat of a pure copper sample with a mass of 0.36 g. The measurements showed agreement within 4-1.5% of the standa
We propose a novel adiabatic demagnetization refrigerator (ADR) to produce temperatures as low as 100 mK starting from a high temperature reservoir between 4 and 8 K. The high temperature reservoir for the ADR can be provided by a mechanical cooler or an unpumped liquid helium bath. This refrigerato
