A new Wadsworth-Emmons reagent, tetrakis(2,2,2-trifluoroethyl) methylenediphosphonate, was prepared and its reaction with aldehydes to yield (Z)-vinyl phosphonates is described. Additionally, an example of a base catalyzed isomerization ofa (Z)-vinyl phosphonate to the corresponding (E)-allylic phosphonate is also discussed.
