✦ Synopsis
A new semiclassica! description of ehstic and ilelastic scattering in heavy-particle collisions is developed. The treatment includes appropkte trajectories determined from a certain optical potential designed so as to couple the response of the internal structure to the orbit for the relative motion. The procedure is applied to yzrious rotational transitions in H-Ha collisions at 0.5-I 5 eV and yields results remarkably close to recent quantal czlcuhfons. Volume 35, number I 2.
