โœฆ Synopsis

The work described in this paper relates to the design and implementation of a simulator representing the ground control station environment of a remotely piloted air-vehicle (RPV) system. This work was carried out within the School of Electronic System Design at the Cranfield Institute of Technology.

The paper briefly describes the system that was simulated. Some of the design factors that influenced the choice of a multiprocessor system are then discussed. A brief description covering the salient points of the hardware/software implementation is included, together with a more detailed account of the communication techniques used.

The main conclusion reached in this paper is that once the interprocessor communications have been established, a complex open-ended system is both easier to implement and more cost-effective using a multiprocessor approach, rather than using the traditional single processor technique.

This paper presents the simulation of a class of MIMD systems using discrete-event simulation enhanced by graphics-oriented reporting. MIMD systems can be specified, modelled and simulated using the package and in turn provide estimates of certain performance indices. A multisewer queueing model is
