β¦ Synopsis
A modifier of Danforth's short tail (Sd) is localized on chromosome 1 of the mouse.
Segregation of Markers
It was shown recently (WALLACE, 1972) that a strain of Peruvian wild mice (WALLACE, 1970) carried a modifier of Danforth's short tail, Sd.
The modifier, which accounted for the difference between tails of mean length 9 mm and 17 mm, segregated independently of markers in chromosomes l, 2, 4 and 9. Using the methods described (WALLACE, 1972), the modifier has now been shown to segregate independently of fuzzy, fz, and polydactyly, py, but not independently with a marker between these two in chromosome 1, namely leaden, In. It is concluded that the modifier is situated close to leaden.
