โฆ Synopsis
A hybrid finite-element method, combining ideas from a modified method of characteristics and the streamline diffusion method, delivers accurate solutions to the advection -diffusion equation. An error analysis for the case of tensorial diffusion shows that the lowest-order version of the scheme, which allows one to use a symmetric linear solvers at each time step, possesses first-order accuracy in time and space. Numerical experiments demonstrate the scheme's ability to model advection-dominated transport of solute plumes without distorting sharp fronts. 0 1995 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.

A modification of the streamline curvature method leads to a quasilinear second-order partial differential equation for the streamline coordinate function. The existence of a stream function is not required. The method is applied to subsonic and supersonic nozzle flow, and to axially symmetric flow
In this article, we analyze the local superconvergence property of the streamline-diffusion finiteelement method (SDFEM) for scalar convection-diffusion problems with dominant convection. By orienting the mesh in the streamline direction and imposing a uniformity condition on the mesh, the theoretic
A one-dimensional singularly perturbed problem with a boundary turning point is considered in this paper. Let V h be the linear finite element space on a suitable grid T h . A variant of streamline diffusion finite element method is proved to be almost uniform stable in the sense that the numerical
