✦ Synopsis

The early days of low temperature detectors are an entanglement between particle physics, astronomy and lowtemperature physics. They are traced from 1903 to the first of the LTD meetings, ''LTD-zero'', which took place at the Groupe de Physique des Solides in Paris, in April 1983.

In this paper we review some synchrotron-radiation-based techniques that can take a great advantage from the exploitation of low-temperature detectors because of their energy resolution that can be pushed down to the eV range. X-ray Absorption Spectroscopy and X-ray Fluorescence analysis appear to b
