✦ Synopsis
A physical model is presented for describing the formation of a gas hydrate in the course of direct-contact evaporation of an organic refrigerant in a medium of water. The hydrate is assumed to form on the surface of each refrigerant bubble, as the result of association of water and refrigerant molecules, and thereby turn the bubble into a hydrate balloon. A calculation scheme for predicting the refrigerant vaporization in, and the hydrate formation on, each bubble is constructed on the basis of the balance between the heat transferred from the medium to the bubble, the heat of vaporization, and the heat of hydrate formation.
