✦ Synopsis

Multiphase reactions using electrochemically generated mediators GENERATED MEDIATORS Borough Road, can be performed with 01 without the liquid phase pre-saturated with reactant. For complex synthesis, this option can give significant differences in yields, selectivities and current efficiencies. This paper high-lights these differences for the synthesis of propylene oxide from propylene using anodically formed bromine. Notably when the liquid is not saturated with propylene, current efficiencies for organic products are lower than when the electrolyte is saturated. For this particular synthesis the loss of efficiency gives rise to the formation of inorganic bromides.
