The maximum circumferential tensile stress theory, originally developed for isotropic solids, is extended to an anisotropic one. A two parameter fracture toughness characterization is assumed, and a simplifying relationship among them postulated. The criteria is reformulated in terms of the maximiza

โฆ Synopsis
A simple numerical method is presented for analysing the mixed mode of rectilinear anisotropic solids. The method is formulated on the basis of a finite element and the crack closure integral approach in conjunction with fundamental relationships in fracture mechanics. A simple and efficient solution procedure is developed involving only the known auxiliary solution for evaluating the strain energy release rate. The finite element solution converges to an accurate solution for small crack extensions. Numerical examples are presented to demonstrate the accuracy of the proposed approach.

In this paper the four common-used criteria for a mixed-mode crack are analysed and modified using the first two terms of Williams' stress series. In the new criteria the singular core is substituted by a plastic zone. These modified criteria take into account the influence of the plastic zone on cr
This paper presents a boundary element analysis of linear elastic fracture mechanics in three-dimensional cracks of anisotropic solids. The method is a single-domain based, thus it can model the solids with multiple interacting cracks or damage. In addition, the method can apply the fracture analysi
