โฆ Synopsis
A methodology for the implementation of a computerized medical diagnostic instrument utilizing quadratic discriminant functions is presented. The emphasis of the methodology is the careful mathematical modeling and the determination of sample sizes required for a good diagnostic instrument. An attempt is made to present, in detail, the practical mathematical modelin difficulties involved in developing a quadratic (or linear) classification function and some methods for avoiding these difficulties. The methodology discussed involves the use of a stepwise quadratic discriminant procedure. as well as statistical simulation. and an application to alcohol abuse screening.
